STRUCTURE, ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND APPLICATION PROCESS

Introduction
The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship Legacy Fund (the Legacy Fund) was established from proceeds from the World Junior Championship that was held in Ottawa in the winter of 2008/2009. Monies allocated to the Legacy Fund are designated for use in the promotion of amateur hockey within the Ottawa District Hockey Association. This document establishes the basis for the operations of the Legacy Fund and the distribution of the monies of the Fund.

Structure
The Legacy Fund shall be administered by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of six (6) members as follows:
Three (3) representatives from the Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA), including: the 1st Vice President, a representative from the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA) and an ODHA Junior Hockey representative.

Mandate of Board of Directors
- To receive and review applications from eligible candidates for projects that fit the eligibility criteria outlined below;
- To select applicants for funding from the applications;
- To distribute the Legacy Fund to successful eligible parties; and
- To ensure that the distributed funds are used for the purpose stated in the applications.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible to receive funds, Applicants must either be led by or include an amateur hockey team, amateur hockey league or amateur hockey association that pays a membership assessment fee to the ODMHA/ODHA, and are in good standing with payment of all assessment fees, bonds or fines. Such amateur hockey associations, teams and leagues shall include male and female organizations which pay a membership assessment fee to the ODMHA/ODHA.
Applicants may form a partnership between an ODHA member and a local municipality, registered non-profit/ charitable corporations and/or Service Club, who are involved in amateur hockey within the boundaries of the ODHA.

2009 IIHF World Junior Championship Legacy Fund

Preference for funding shall be given to projects that:
1) Will have an on-going impact on the sport and community; and
2) Leverage the Legacy Fund grant with matching funds from other sources.
Projects shall fall within the criterion, as outlined below, in order to be considered for funding:
- Establishment of a program to introduce new Canadians to ice hockey;
- Renovations to arena(s) to provide for more efficient use of ice by amateur hockey and sledge hockey users;
- Renovations to arena(s) to assist in the development, training, and/or efficiency of coaches, officials and volunteer administrators;
- Establishment of self-funding programs to provide for enhanced skill development or enhanced training of amateur hockey players (male and female) and officials;
- Establishment of an endowment fund or bursary for college/university scholarships for amateur hockey players;
- Establishment of an endowment fund or program to assist with providing skates and other equipment to underprivileged and disadvantaged youths; and
- Establishment of an Ottawa District Hockey Hall of Fame to promote our game and recognize excellence on and off the ice.

Application Process
• Applications shall be submitted on the Legacy Fund “Application Form”, completed in full with supporting documentation, and dated and signed by the applicants.
• Applications for the year submitted shall be received no later than December 31.
• Completed applications should be emailed to wjc@odha.com
• Applicants may be required to meet with the Board of Directors to present their application for funding or for clarification of facts related to the application.
